The China Greentech Initiative

The China Greentech Initiative (CGTI) brought companies, investors, research institutions and policy advisors together to understand and develop China's market for green technology. Working as a neutral third party, it combined independent strategic research with a community of more than 100 commercial and policy organizations. The goal was to help companies succeed commercially in China while advancing the country's cities and industries toward a cleaner, more efficient future.

What we did together

• The China Greentech Report: an annual, free publication on China's greentech markets. The first edition launched at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Dalian in 2009. It narrowed several hundred candidate technologies to 125 greentech solutions across seven sectors: cleaner conventional energy, renewable energy, electric power infrastructure, green buildings, cleaner transportation, cleaner industry and clean water. A research team of about 30 produced it, with contributions from hundreds of industry experts. Later editions followed through 2013, in English and Chinese.
• The Partner Program: an annual program, founded in 2008, that brought together about 500 senior decision-makers from more than 100 organizations. They included technology buyers and sellers, service providers, investors and policy makers. Partners received opportunity assessments, weekly market updates and co-branded publications.
• Working Sessions: focused gatherings of 40 to 60 commercial and policy stakeholders, each built around a specific market opportunity. They were used to frame issues, test findings and build working relationships. CGTI held its 75th Working Session in 2013.
• Advisory services: custom market studies, partner matchmaking, and tailored thought leadership for organizations pursuing specific opportunities in China.
